Dear RSE enthusiasts,
the RSE in-person event in June is organized in collaboration with the King’s College London e-Research Group, the King’s Digital Lab, the IC Digitality and Digital Methods Campus Mitte, and partners at the HUB.
We invite everybody to join our open events:
- 24.6. 2-4 pm discussion round RSE in the Humanities (UL6, 2070A)
- 25.6. 3-4 pm talk on Static-first approach to web dev by Geoffroy Noël (hybrid mode) as part of our Talks Series Research Software Skills (see below)

Diese Reihe wird gemeinsam mit der King’s College London e-Research Group und dem King’s Digital Lab und dem IZ Digitalität und digitalen Methoden am Campus Mitte sowie Kooperationspartnern am HUB organisiert. Alle Veranstaltungen finden unter dem Contributor Covenant Code of Conduct statt. Wenn Sie eine Sitzung zu einem Thema leiten möchten, das wir noch nicht behandelt haben, einen CoC-Vorfall melden möchten oder andere Fragen zur Reihe haben, können Sie sich an Jost Migenda (jost.migenda@kcl.ac.uk) und Carolin Odebrecht (iz-d2mcm.contact@hu-berlin.de) wenden.

Seven Steps Towards Reproducible (Computational) Research | Liz Ing-Simmons | Reproducibility, the ability for others to consistently reach the same conclusions using the same methods and data, is essential for robust and trustworthy research. Reproducibility of computational research is a simple premise in theory, but can be difficult to achieve in practice. This talk will outline seven steps towards reproducible research, and discuss tools and approaches that researchers can use in each of these steps, including version control, automated testing, and workflow managers. Managing Teams and Tasks using GitLab/GitHub | Carolin Odebrecht | How do we use management features such as boards, issues and labels to organise interdisciplinary teams aiming to collaboratively work on data or software using GitLab/GitHub? Using the management features needs to be aligned with the management approach and workflows of the team, which is often also influenced by discipline-specific requirements. Static-first approach to web dev | Geoffroy Noël | King’s Digital Lab develops the digital resources at the heart of many research projects. Most of these resources are web-based and hosted on KCL infrastructure. Over the years our RSE team has gradually standardised its development stack. And recently we have transitioned our default architecture from monolithic client-server to static sites. In this talk we’ll explain what we mean by “static first”, why we took that direction and where we are on that path. Access: Access via MS Teams |

Software Discovery, Publication and Citation | Alexander Struck, Stephan Druskat | Research software is (slowly) being recognized as a research output. Therefore, it should be published, cited and be findable for potential reuse. But the landscape, infrastructure and processes are rather heterogeneous. The two talks will introduce the topics, showcase state-of-the-art approaches and ongoing work to improve software publication, citation and discovery.
